Nervous teenagers across Elmbridge headed to their schools this morning to pick up their GCSE results.

Schools opened their doors at 9am this morning for students to grab their envelopes and find out whether they received the grades they were hoping for.

Hinchley Wood School achieved top results again this year, with 39 per cent of all grades issued either A* or A.

A third of year 11 pupils, 75 students, gained five or more A* and A grades, while 20 of those students achieved 10 of more of the top grades.

Jess Chan, who gained 9 A*s and 2 As, said: "I'm so happy as German was ridiculous. I'll be coming back for sixth form and starting maths, further maths, chemistry and geography.

"I think my mum will be really pleased and we're going to go on a little trip to celebrate."

Another of the school's top achievers, Elizabeth Monaghan, secured 11 A*s.

She said: "It's what I was hoping to get which is strange as when I did my French two years ago they said "only 10 more to get".

"I didn't want to open my eyes when I first looked at it but I'm glad I did. I'm going on to sixth form and hopefully do the same."

Headteacher Ben Bartlett, who joined the school in September 2013, said: "We are all delighted with the record results this summer.

"It is fantastic to see students of all abilities achieving so well especially in light of the volatile picture nationally.

"The results come following an enormous amount of hard work by students and staff, with the outstanding support of our parental body."
