The sounds of opera will travel through Hersham as a special concert marks the anniversary of the start of the First World War.

The concert, organised by Hersham in Bloom, will see mezzo-soprano Iwona Januszajtis and tenor Daniel Meades singing wartime favourites.

Ms Januszajtis, who is a member of Hersham in Bloom, said: "My parents and grandparents suffered enormously and fought for the freedoms that we enjoy today, so I thought in this anniversary year it would be nice to do something locally to commemorate the heroes and bring the local community together in song."

Members of the audience will also be handed song lyrics to encourage them to sing-along.

The concert takes place at Hersham Memorial Gardens on Saturday, July 26, at 2.30pm.

Entry to the concert is free, with cream teas available at Hersham Day Centre in exchange for donations to the Royal British Legion.
