Two people were taken to hospital after a fight between a large group of people in a pub in West Molesey.

A fight broke out in the Royal Oak, Walton Road, just before midnight on Friday, July 4, leaving one person hospitalised in a serious condition.

A 63-year-old man sustained a serious head injury and was taken by ambulance to St George’s Hospital, Tooting, where he remains.

A woman was also injured, receiving minor injuries, and was taken to Kingston Hospital for treatment.

Detective Constable Sheena Service said: "This was a shocking act of violence that has left one man in hospital with serious injuries and I would like to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or the events surrounding it to contact officers with information.

"The fight broke out during a busy time, late on Friday night, and would have been witnessed by many people.

"It is possible that those involved in the incident have spoken to others since it took place, and I would ask anyone who has obtained information to contact officers. No matter how small or insignificant you think the information may be, it may prove vital in our investigation.

"Surrey Police will not tolerate antisocial behaviour of this kind I urge anyone with any information to contact police so that we bring those responsible to justice."

A woman in her 40s from Hersham was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and driving under the influence of alcohol and a man in his 50s from West Molesey was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

Both were released on police bail until August 30 while the investigation continues.
