Thieves are believed to have fished keys for a Ferrari kit car from a letter box in Walton before torching it.

The silver coloured replica was discovered in flames at about 8.15pm on March 24 in garages in Fleetside, West Molesey.

It had last been seen a few hours earlier parked outside a house three miles away in New Zealand Avenue, Walton.

Detective Constable Graham Englefield, said: "Understandably the owner of the car is extremely upset by the loss of his much cherished vehicle.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously or may have seen the distinctive car being driven that evening.

"The car also had a large, loud exhaust so it's possible that someone may have heard it as it made off.

"I am appealing for members of the public to contact police with any information as it might prove vital to the investigation."
