Former independent councillor Sheila Griffin has found a new role following her defeat in Norbiton ward in this month’s local elections, as vice-president of the Kingston and district soroptimists.
The group, whose name means best of sisters, is part of a worldwide organisation striving for human rights for all people, advancing the status of women and contributing to international understanding.
Marian Reardon, who became president at the same time, said: "My presidential local charity this year is Royad, reaching out to youth and adult disabilities, and I want to make a difference to the people the charity supports.
"My aim for this year is that I would like to see our members become more known in our local community."
