After a long night of national excitement, results have started coming in for Elmbridge Council local elections.
Early signs are that the Conservatives will hold on to overall control of the council, after one of the Residents' Assocation targets, Esher, was won by Tory candidate Simon Waugh, who got 1,701 votes, beating Joan Leifer, who got 1,487.
Turnout was high on the back of the national election, with 69.4 per cent turning out in that ward.
Other results are coming in thick and fast, with former leader Roy Taylor's vacant seat, where last night people were turned away from polling stations, comfortably held by the Tories.
Conservative candidate Kay Hughes won 2,133 votes, with closest rival Lib Dem Vicki Macloed getting 826.
Tory incumbent Maria Odone has held on in Cobham Fairmile, with 1,319 votes.
The Residents' Assocation held on to Hinchley Wood, where 74.6 per cent of voters turned out. Frank Dabell got 1,843 votes, beating Conservative Velma Still, who got 750.
