Runnymede and Weybridge MP Philip Hammond has refused to be drawn on rumours he will be the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions in the in the new Conservative and Liberal Democrat Government.
Several websites this morning have unconfirmed reports the 54-year-old has landed the cabinet role he shadowed in opposition between 2005 and 2007 and the Wikipedia entry for the Tory politician already states it as his current position in Government.
But speaking to the Elmbridge Guardian this morning, Mr Hammond said it was "pure speculation".
Mr Hammond has been a prominent figure on national TV in the months leading up to the General Election in his previous role as Shadow Secretary to the Treasury, but this cabinet position is now expected to be offered to Lib Dem deputy leader Vince Cable.
