Volunteers make Kingston town centre event a success
5:33pm Saturday 28th July 2012 in News
Crowds: There was good humour throughout the day
A team of 90 volunteers ensured today's cycle race ran smoothly in Kingston, the town centre manager has said.
Ros Morgan said KingstonFirst's main role had been to come in early and make sure the town was ready and looking its best for visitors.
Staff also gave out information leaflets to arriving spectators and helped the whole event run smoothly.
She said: "From 9am the volumes of people arriving just kept increasing every time a train came through. It was very exciting.
"The maps [we were giving out] were really well done with the route for today and tomorrow and we had quite a few people comment on how good it was to have the information here.
"The world's media have just passed through our doors and what more could you ask for to really get Kingston on the map."
There are 240 KingstonFirst volunteers trained and ready to help over the course of the Olympic events in the town and 90 were helping out today.
