A college student has received a royal certificate from the Queen at a special awards ceremony held at Windsor Castle.

Jacqui Clements, who is studying for a foundation degree in childcare at Kingston College, was given a Queen’s Scout Award at the event.

She was the only person in Kingston to have gained the award which is the highest honour within the youth scouting movement.

Miss Clements who was able to gain the award after first completing the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, said: "I never knew what I wanted to do with my life but knew I wanted to have fun.

"I helped as a Christian youth support worker in a local church for a year. I was also part of a team of leaders who took a group of scouts to Sweden last year. This was an amazing trip as I was at times a first aider for 50 people or more."

Miss Clements who enjoys mountaineering now has two further challenges to complete following her award.

Jo Dalla from Kingston College said: "Jacqui is a really committed student. She studies hard and takes her work seriously."
