A young clubber’s night out ended in horror when she was raped by a stranger she met in a town centre bar.

A police forensics team sealed off All Saints Church graveyard to hunt for evidence following the attack in the early hours of Saturday.

Police said the woman, in her early 20s, had been at the alternative music venue Bacchus, in Kingston’s Union Street, with a friend on Friday, January 27.

They believe she did not previously know her attacker, who she met at the late-night venue’s fortnightly Growler night, which plays “filthy electro, dirty house and wobbly bass”.

The session ended at 3am, and police said the attack happened near the Apple Market 15 minutes later.

A spokesman said the woman did not suffer any injuries, but they were investigating whether any violence was used, or if she was dragged to a different location.

Rob Pattenden, a train driver trainer from Tolworth, was one of hundreds of shoppers who saw police tape, vehicles and officers in forensic overalls in the churchyard on Saturday morning.

He said: “It’s terrible to think it is happening in Kingston. It is an appalling crime and your thoughts are always with the victim.

“To think you are going about doing your shopping not 20 to 30 yards from where that occurred is a sobering thought.”

Investigating officers from Kingston Sapphire Unit had not made any arrests as we went to press and said they were currently following up various leads.

The manager of Bacchus, who refused to give his name, said: “We are supporting the police with their inquiries in any way that we can.”
