Teenagers have thrown themselves into a project to help repair an iconic mosaic inspired by the work of photographic pioneer Eadweard Muybridge.

The 15 youngsters, from The Challenge Society, visited the Kingston Environment Centre to bring the ruined mosaic back to life after it fell into disrepair.

Save the World Club volunteers, who designed and produced the artwork, have been urging people to donate funds in order for the mosaic to be remade and reinstalled in Castle Street, Kingston.

Bruno Clarke, Challenge assistant programme manager, helped to organise the event and said it was the ideal opportunity for the organisation to step in and lend a hand on Saturday, January 14.

He said: “It’s great that the young people can work in collaboration with members of the local community to do something that benefits the local area.”

Challenge graduate, Jack Lewis said: “I think that this project is helping the community to look nice and it is important as it is going towards leaving a legacy after the Olympics.”

Lead mosaic artist at Save the World Club Kim Porrelli said the help from the youngsters was fantastic but they still needed donations to fund the £3,000 specialist instillation.
