A cyclist has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a collision with a car in Walton.

Rydens Road was closed by police investigators after the crash at 2.10pm and people watched as paramedics carried out CPR on the cyclist at the roadside.

An air ambulance landed on a grassy area at the junction of Severn Drive and took the 14-year-old boy to Royal London Hospital.

One witness, who has lived in Rydens Road for more than 50 years, said: “I think he has head injuries, it looked quite bad. Two or three medical people were pumping is chest and giving him CPR.

“I go to the police meetings every time they’re on and complain about the speed cars go down here. It’s not safe - you get some doing 60-80mph. I’m an ex-racing mechanic so I know speed.

“I had a policeman from the headquarters at Mount Browne call me about my complaints and he told me that they can’t put a speed camera here until there has been three fatalities.

“I never thought the day would come where a policeman told me that.”

Another witness on scene said only a week-and-a-half ago another accident happened metres away, where Crofton Avenue turns into Rydens Road.

A police spokesman said: “Police received reports that a silver Vauxhall Astra had collided with a pedal cycle being ridden a boy who is believed to be around 14-years-old.

“The teenager sustained serious head injuries and was taken by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel where he remains in a serious condition.

“As a result of the collision Surrey Police closed Rydens Road at the junction with Rydens Avenue and the road remains closed while the vehicle is recovered and the scene is examined by collision investigators, although the road is expected to reopen shortly.”
