A show-biz mad pensioner won sponsorship from Lord of the Rings actor John Hurt for his latest charity walk.

Former film extra John Dodd raised more than £1,162 from the 151 mile walk, which took in filming locations for British TV drama, Midsummer Murders.

The 66-year-old’s sponsorship money was boosted by Coronation street actress Sarah Lancashire and the English star John Hurt, who has starred in films including Harry Potter.

The money will go towards Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, The Prostate Cancer Charity, Blue Cross, RSPB and Iain Rennie Hospice at Home. Mr Dodd’s walk started in Aylesbury and over 15 days took him through Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

His passion for show business has led him across the country in a series of themed charity walks and he already has plans for the next one, to walk from his Surbiton home to Newcastle in memory of ex- Shadows band member Jet Harris.

He said: “I have walks planned until I’m about 80. If I am still alive and haven’t been mowed down I would like to do me last walk on my 80th birthday.”
