Volunteers and users of a companionship charity enjoyed tea and scones with their MP last week.

Concern and Help for East Elmbridge Retired (Cheer) is a small charity and its befriending service offers regular company and friendship for elderly people in their homes.

Volunteers help reduce loneliness and isolation that some people experience and arrange get togethers for volunteers and their clients.

On June 10, Dominic Raab, Esher and Walton MP, joined the group for tea at Squires Garden Centre in Long Ditton.

He said: “Harry Livesey, his team and all the volunteers do a fantastic job, providing companionship and support to our senior citizens living alone.

“Both locally and nationwide, we face a real challenge in making sure we look after the elderly with dignity and respect. Local charities like Cheer play an invaluable role.”

Cheer is partly funded by Elmbridge Council, Surrey County Council and the Lottery.
