The super-secretive filming of the new Batman movie in Croydon has finally begun after tell-tale cinema equipment appeared in the centre of town.

Extras have been signed up to work on the multimillion-pound blockbuster in Croydon for the next few days as the producers prepare the Hollywood-style destruction of Delta Point near West Croydon station.

The landmark building has been marked for computerised demolition as part of The Dark Knight Rises, which sees Christian Bale reprise his role as the caped crusader.

Shooting is due to move to Glasgow at the beginning of June, meaning film fans have little time to catch the action while it remains in the borough.

A spokeswoman for the new film has refused to comment on the Croydon shoots over fears details of the new movie will be leaked.

Predecessor The Dark Knight, released in 2008, became the seventh-highest grossing film of all time after taking more than $1 billion in revenue worldwide.
