Rare computer games and games consoles worth about £25,000 were stolen from a van in Shortlands Road at the weekend.
The White Ford transit van was found with its contents gone and its door open at 3am on Saturday, 19 August, after its 23-year-old owner left it there at 11pm on Friday, 18 August.
The equipment belongs to the organisers of DDR:uk, a computer games tournament organiser specialising in the Dancing Stage games often seen in amusement arcades.
They have posted an appeal for help on numerous online gaming sites which reads: "Ultimately, the value of the stolen goods comes to some £25,000 - this has severely crippled us, both in terms of equipment and finance. DDR:uk has been left unable to do any events in the future."
Police said the suspect is likely to have been driving a vehicle due to the amount of equipment stolen.
