Star of the international folk circuit Kristina Olsen plays at the Ram Folk Club in Thames Ditton on Friday, September 10.

Born in San Francisco, multi-instrumentalist Kristina will play her own songs on acoustic guitar, slide guitar, saxophone, concertina and piano.

She will be accompanied by long-time collaborator Peter Grayling on cello.

A spokesman for the folk club said: “Her strong songs - from hilarious tales of love-gone-wrong to others of rare insight and compassion - have been much-covered but are most compelling when sung by their maker.

“Peter Grayling takes an instrument rarely seen off the classical stage - he is a principal cellist with Australia’s top symphony orchestras - and weaves it through Kristina’s songs, enriching the ballads with a gorgeous, mellow sound and driving along the bluesy numbers with punchy playing and recklessly passionate solos. And it works beautifully.”

The club takes place at The Old Cranleighan Club in Portsmouth Road from 8.15 pm. Tickets cost £11 or £9 for members.
