A north Kingston community theatre will fight for its survival next week, when it meets the trustees who served an eviction notice.
Kingston Vale Operatic and Dramatic Society (Kvods), which has more than 80 adult and young members, has been told they must leave their village hall in Kingston Vale by the end of January.
On September 9, they will meet with the trustees of the hall, owned by St John the Baptist Church in Robin Hood Lane, who said the village hall was losing too much money to allow Kvods to remain.
Nick Wale, Kvods’ chairman, said: “It will be massively disappointing for us because Kvods have been a part of this community for more than 60 years.
“If we are forced to go elsewhere, the increase in costs will be massive because all our set designs and costumes are here and made by local people.”
Gary Conn, the treasurer of the Village Hall and a St John the Baptist churchwarden, confirmed that Kvods had been given notice to leave but that no plans were in place to sell the land to a developer.
Mr Conn said: “All I am willing to say is that Kvods have asked for another meeting with us and we are happy to oblige them.”
