A group of switched-on Surbiton strangers met each other for the first time this week, after being brought together by social networking website Twitter.
More than 30 Surbiton-based Twitter users, brought together by their mutual interest in the area, met each other at the Surbiton Tweet-Up at Hotel Bosco, St Mark’s Hill, on Tuesday evening.
The event was organised by Surbiton residents Martin Goode and Huw Langridge, who wanted to provide self-confessed “techies” with an informal way to socialise and discuss their local area.
Mr Langridge, 37, said: “It was a great success and everyone was really pleased with it.
“The really weird thing was that it seemed like we knew each other, because people turned out to be exactly the same as how they sound on Twitter.”
He added that plans are already under way to make the Tweet-up a regular event, where Twitter users can follow by typing by searching for Surbiton or by following @martingoode or @huwlangridge.
