From Community Correspondent Steve Wicks: Guides from the 3rd Carshalton Beeches Company recently went on a barge trip from Camden Lock down the Regents Canal to the Lee River. Four of their girls had gained money from their Jack Petchey awards for use by their Guide Company and decided to spend it on a fun weekend afloat. They opened locks, slept and cooked on board and had a face pack!! They tried their hand at steering with the skipper's help and on the Saturday night went ice skating and all had a wonderful time.
Jack Petchey awards are given to girls nominated by their peers for achievement or for doing their best or for helping others.
‘This was a great way for the girls to use their award money for the benefit of all and it was a really great weekend they’ll all remember’ said leader Christine Nardiello.
