Epsom & Ewell collected a welcome point on Saturday, but victories for Kingsbury and Edgware means they drop two places down the Ryman League Division Two table.

With Mark Freeborough unavailable, Tim Hurren came into central defence and on an uneven surface they had strong penalty claims turned down when Luke Gay picked up Micky Owen's pass, rounded keeper McKechnie and was sent tumbling, but with the referee unsighted, the assistant on the far side was not convinced.

Epsom were forced to make a change after 24 minutes, keeper Warren Aburn came out to punch away Ross McMeeken's corner, but was flattened by a hefty late challenge by Mark Needham. After treatment to a head injury he was led off, to be replaced by Albert Ademi.

A ratty Chalfont side had Stephen Hand booked for dissent and from McMeeken's free-kick, Cotsford headed the ball back across goal for Neil Smith, but Ademi reacted well to block by the post.

A good chance saw Micky Owen's first-time cross put wide by Adam Stones and just before the break Ademi was forced to flip a Deeley header over the bar.

Ademi pulled off a fine save from Smith before Chalfont went ahead after 52 minutes.

Steve Nott-Macaire's deep free-kick was half-cleared, but only as far as Martin Deeley who drilled the ball home from the edge of the box.

Micky Owen twice fired over, but Chalfont had a let-off when Shayne Chandler's back-pass always had McKechnie struggling, his clearance which rebounded off Luke Gay could have gone anywhere.

The lively Gay nearly equalised when he latched onto Max Tacey's clearance, cut back inside, but his shot rebounded off Nott-Macaire for a corner, Ross Shoefield was just wide, and a quick Owen free-kick was headed back across by Chris Read, but Luke Gay's effort hit the post.

Chalfont's Proverbs was booked for a foul on Lee Purvis as Epsom's pressure began to tell and from the resultant Shoefield free-kick, Micky Owen's header was just wide.

An awkward bouncing cross nearly caught out Ademi, but Nick Williams was on hand to complete the clearance and another Epsom chance failed to find the target when Owen's cross found Lee Purvis on the edge of the box, but his half-volley on the turn was over the bar.

Epsom finally equalised after 80 minutes. Micky Owen's throw found Luke Gay, his square flick found Lee Purvis, who netted with a low left-foot shot from the edge of the box.

Epsom & Ewell: Warren Aburn (Albert Ademi 24 mins), Nick Williams, Max Tacey, Adam Stones, Tim Hurren, Andy Davidson, Chris Read, Ross Shoefield, Luke Gay, Micky Owen, Lee Purvis.

Epsom's Youth team narrowly lost 2-3 to Whyteleafe in Wednesday's Southern Youth League game at Church Road, two goals down at the break, they fought back strongly, Marc Muino hit the bar, Elio Escoffery pulled a goal back after 61 minutes from the penalty spot after Sam Carter had been brought down.

John Oppong-Baah equalised after 81 minutes with a screamer from 25 yards only for Whyteleafe to grab the winner two minutes from time.

Epsom & Ewell are at home to Wembley in Ryman League Division Two on Saturday.
