The train involved in a fire at Berrylands station was cleared at 1.15pm and all lines have now reopened.
South West Trains apologised for the disruption caused.
A spokesman said: "The fire brigade was called as a precaution and the electric current was isolated on the two tracks which carry trains towards London.
"Passengers were escorted from the train to Berrylands station, which was a walk of about 30 yards.
"We apologise for any disruption this caused to passengers’ journeys."
