Residents of a 20-flat building may have to be rehomed after scaffolding at its rear collapsed in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters were called at 12.11am to Copenhagen Way, Walton, and used thermal imaging to see if anyone was trapped under the mess.

Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident, although people may have to be rehomed temporarily, after the scaffolding smashed windows and caused extensive damage to the rear of the properties.

It took firefighters three hours to negotiate through the rubble in the pitch black midnight snow.

The road was cordoned off this morning while work continued to clear the scene.

It is not yet known what caused the scaffolding to fall and a van from Johnson Scaffolding Service was at the scene.

They were unavailable for comment this morning.
