Searching for an affordable home in Elmbridge should now be easier, thanks to the launch of a new scheme on Thursday, December 3.
The new Search Moves scheme was officially launched by the mayors of Spelthorne, Runnymede and Elmbridge for those in need of housing.
It lists all vacant properties on a freesheet, available in council offices and libraries, or on the Search Moves website.
Applicants can then bid for up to three vacant properties by posting in a coupon, by telephone, by text or through the online bidding facility.
Thanks to a partnership between Elmbridge, Spelthorne and Runnymede councils, Elmbridge Housing Trust and A2Dominion, the properties advertised cover each partner’s area, allowing people to bid for properties in more than one borough.
Julie Cook, head of housing services at Elmbridge Council, said: “We hope this new scheme will help many of the 1,500 households on our housing register to get more involved in searching for a new home and understanding what is and what is not available.
“It is vital that our applicants understand the new scheme and that they must be placing bids to ensure they are not missing out on vacancies.”
The project was three years in the making and Government grant funding, totalling £100,000, was obtained to make it possible, as well as £13,000 put forward by each partner.
Visit searchmoves.co.uk to take part in the scheme or call 01372 474474 for more information on how to use the tool.
