Esher's Garsons Farm joins Guiness world record attempt

Esher’s Garsons Farm took part in a Guinness world record attempt on Saturday, in a marathon tree planting session.

Tree O’Clock was a nationwide attempt to plant as many trees as possible in one hour from 11am to noon.

The current record is 653,143 trees planted simultaneously in one hour and the campaign, covered by BBC’s Autumnwatch, Blue Peter and The One Show, encouraged people to join in and do “one thing for nature”.

Garsons Farm manager Steve Gallimore said: “We’re planting the first of 1,200 new apple trees to start a new orchard at the farm. It’s good to get stuck into the tree planting campaign, which will provide a lasting natural legacy for many years to come.”

The world record has not yet been verified but even if it is not successful, hundreds of thousands of new trees will have been planted as a result.
