Kingston pupils to immortalise London in Thames Tapestry

Kingston pupils will help make the world’s longest tapestry, illustrating the history of the River Thames in time for the 2012 Olympics.

Five of the borough’s schools will each complete a one metre square panel depicting aspects of the river in their area.

St Philip’s, Robin Hood Primary School, Tiffin Girls’ School, Tolworth Infants’ School and Latchmere Primary School will all take part, after the project, organised by the Thames Heritage Trust, received a £50,000 Heritage Lottery Fund grant.

Paul Coleman, chairman of the trust, said: “The finished tapestries will reflect a multifaceted portrait of the Thames, from its source to the sea through the eyes of the children of all abilities who live along its banks.”
