A 20-year-old man was rushed to hospital last night after a stabbing in New Malden.
Police cordoned off the top end of Beresford Road, a quiet cul-de-sac, for two hours after the incident, which happened at about 5.30pm.
Witnesses said they saw the attacker get out of a black BMW which had been driven to the far end of the road before stabbing the man and driving away.
A police dog team was used in what was believed to be a hunt for a weapon, but officers at the scene would only confirm to neighbours that a "serious incident" had occurred.
Rebecca Barnes, who has lived in the street for six years, was stunned to find police barring the entrance to the road when she returned from work at 7pm.
She said: "We’re all in shock."
A spokesman for London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at just after 5.40pm yesterday evening to reports of a stabbing in Beresford Road, New Malden.
"We sent a single responder in a car and one ambulance crew to the scene.
"A man believed to be 20 years old was taken to hospital."

This happens all of the time now. The police should not treat residents like children and should give out the full information immediately. It seems like they are trying to keep these attacks under cover.
