A Tooting woman has become the first in the borough to give birth to a New Year’s baby.
Polish Iwona Kobaj, 30, from Lessingham Avenue, was due to have her baby- a boy, who has yet to be named-on Monday, December 29.
But he held on for three more days to make it as the first baby to be born in the new year at 3.05am, weighing in at almost 10lb.
This was the second child for office assistant, Iwona and her self-employed builder husband, 36-year-old Andrzej. The couple already have a daughter, Aleksandra, aged 3.
“We are really happy to have a son. We already had a girl, so now it feels like our family is complete,” said Iwona.
There was one other baby born on January 1 at St George’s Hospital.
