Woman dies at New Malden railway station

A 48-year-old woman died after being struck by a train at New Malden station yesterday lunchtime.

Witnesses said the woman jumped from the London bound platform in front of the 12.03pm Woking to Waterloo train as it passed through New Malden station at 12.30pm.

The train was not scheduled to stop at New Malden and was travelling through the station at 60mph.

The fatality caused severe disruption to South West Trains routes and engineering work between Barnes and Clapham Junction meant trains were unable to be diverted around the incident.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman said: "The incident was reported at 12.34pm and was attended by BTP and London Ambulance Service. The incident is being treated as non-suspicious.

"The railway was handed back to Network Rail at 1.22pm."

I couldnt care less about this woman, hope she goes to hell, if your gonna take your own life do so by taking drugs or something, not doing it where its gonna affect lots of people and permimently scare the train driver for life!

I was on the train that this woman jumped in front of with my partner and 2 children. I have to say whilst my condolences go out to this womans family. I agree that if you are hell bent on suicide then surely there are other ways and means than jumping in front of the train. I found myself stuck on the train for well over an hour explaining to a 11 and 7 year old what suicide was, as the guard had announced this was the reason for the delay. I feel sorry for the poor driver and the paramedics on scene who had to deal with the body. The guard, paramedics and Transport police were superb and I sincerely hope I never have to experience anythng like that again.

I feel sorry for you and think thats terrible that you have to tell your children what it is, this is something you would not want your children hearing about. Death is a horrible thing and i feel sorry for everyone invovled- except for the person that jumped.

As someone connected to the tragic death of this woman, I am saddened to read some of the comments posted. I trust she is now at peace and my heart goes out to those she has left behind as they come to terms with their loss.

Of course we feel for the family, but my heart also goes out to the poor train driver. My husband drives south West trains, on that line. It is something that can emotionally scar you for ever.He is always dreading it happening to him.

Well Valley_girl i'm just posting from what i have read from this news article, and what i have understood from this article is that a woman jumped infront of a train, scared the poor driver for life and caused major delays- how can you argue that i am angry with this, if she wants to leave this world then she should take a drugs overdose or something- something which does not affect and bring harm to others!

Show a bit of decency.

In an ideal world no-one would commit suicide by jumping in front of a train, but in an ideal world no-one would commit suicide at all.

The fact that some people are desperate enough to want to kill themselves and may do it in a way that causes grief and inconvenience to others isn't really worthy of your condemnation.

Almost by definition, many people contemplating suicide aren't in a fit state of mind to take into account their impact on others, and it does no-one any good to snipe about it where the victim's family may be reading.

Just try to imagine how you'd feel if this was your spouse or child that had died.

Your right im sorry, its just that this sorta thing seems to be happening quite alot and my first reaction was no thought for anyone else, but thats very true if they were suicidal then they most proberbly would not think about various methods and think of an easy way out.

I am disgusted to see the lack of understanding amongst the people on here. Not everything can be explained by rationality. Some people are mentally ill and don't know how to cope. So what if your train gets held up an hour. At least you aren't so desperately sad that you feel you have no other choice but to end your lives. Show a little compassion. You are so heartless and selfish
