Surbiton and New Malden Christmas lights go on

Carol singers, a fairground and a stilt walking reindeer brought Christmas cheer to Surbiton and New Malden last week, when the last of the borough’s Christmas lights were officially switched on.

Hundreds of families descended on Surbiton station on Thursday, November 27, to see the lights switched on by Father Christmas himself.

Music included a carol concert from Maple Infants School, Christ Church Primary School and St Andrew’s and St Mark’s Church choir and Borough Brass were also on hand to keep the crowds entertained.

More than 400 mince pies were handed out to the crowd by Waitrose and children were kept amused with fairground rides, a Christmas craft workshop and balloon modelling.

Santa also did the honours in New Malden on Friday, November 28.

A special parade was organised from Fountain roundabout to St George’s Square where the lights were magically switched on as Santa passed in his sleigh.
