'Any drug death a tragedy'

A drive to reduce drug deaths has been launched with the start of Surrey Overdose Prevention Month.

Surrey Primary Care Trust (PCT) and the Surrey Drug and Alcohol Action Team have joined forces to improve the range, quality and accessibility of drug treatment in Surrey.

As part of their work, they are promoting the special month to raise awareness about drug overdoses and how people can access help and support.

Heather Ryder, substance misuse specialist at Surrey PCT, said: “While drug users are often perceived as a nuisance to society, it’s important to remember these individuals need help and support.

“Any drug related death is a waste of life and a tragedy for the family and friends of that individual.

“We want to try to ensure that drug users, their friends and families and professionals working in the field understand the dangers of overdose and know how to recognise and react to them.”
