A pedestrian struck and killed in New Malden on Monday, August 13 has been named as a 21-year-old student at Kington University.

Charlotte Staplehurst, from Eastbourne, who studied pharmaceutical science, was hit and killed by a vehicle on Coombe Road.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended, and Miss Staplehurst was pronounced dead at the scene at 12.16am.

In a touching tribute on Instagram, Miss Staplehurst’s boyfriend, Harry Foster, wrote: “The times I spent with you were the best of my life and what I feel for you will never change.

"You were my my world and nobody could or will ever replace you.

"You are the best person I know I would not change a single part of who you are I am so sorry. I love you Charlotte."

Dr Nick Freestone, course leader for pharmaceutical science at Kingston University, said: “Charlotte was a valued and respected member of the pharmaceutical science family at Kingston University and was popular with both her fellow students and academic teaching staff.

"She was a conscientious and diligent student and was on track to achieve a very good degree. Charlotte, who was an exemplary student, had enormous potential to contribute positively to the scientific community and wider society.

"She will be sorely missed by the pharmaceutical science team and the University would like to extend its heartfelt condolences to her family and all her friends.”

The 27-year-old driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was taken to a south London police station for questioning and has since been released under investigation.
