Walton on Thames and Esher locals will be able to enjoy free tennis lessons every Sunday starting from next Sunday (August 12).

The national tennis charity Tennis For Free is teaming up with Elmbridge Council to offer free sessions every week, open to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Lessons will be held at Elmgrove Recreation Ground on Highfield Road from 10am to 11.30am and at Esher Civic Centre courts off Esher High Street every Sunday from 12.30 to 1.30pm.

Duncan Willitts, tennis coach at Elmgrove, said: "We are all very excited to welcome Tennis For Free to not one but two parks across the Borough – in Walton-on-Thames and Esher.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for all members of the local area to try tennis for either the first time or to dust off the cobwebs and try again.”

Cllr Malcolm Howard, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said “The Tennis for Free programme is a fantastic way for families to try out the sport in a relaxed environment.

“It’s free, it’s fun and people get all the benefits of playing outdoors in a park close to them. What a great way to stay active, get fitter and enjoy a bit of mild competition.

“I do encourage families to sign up to this free scheme. Come and give it a go.”
