Travellers who set up on King Edward’s Recreation Ground in Chessington have left behind fly-tipped rubbish and caused damage to the field, according to police.

The unauthorised encampment on the playing field was set up on Monday (July 16) and Kingston Council served a notice requiring them to vacate by 7am on Friday morning or face arrest.

The group is understood to have left the site on Thursday, but officers tweeted pictures showing a broken bench, an overflowing bin, a broken water pipe, and tyre marks across the field.

The Tolworth Police twitter account confirmed the group’s departure on Thursday afternoon.

“The group have now left King Edwards Playing Fields and were last seen heading towards Tolworth on the A3 and we are looking out to see whether they have moved anywhere else locally,” a tweet from the account read.

It is understood the group of travellers has moved to Ham Common in Wandsworth.
