Findings of the inquiry into the Parsons Green bomber's handling by Surrey County Council will not be made public, it has been announced.

Councillor Hazel Watson asked the cabinet when the "learning review" (modelled on a serious case review, which takes place when a child dies or is seriously injured) would be published.

Leader Cllr David Hodge said in a reply the report has been considered by the Home Office, but will not be shared publicly.

Instead, a letter prepared for the Home Affairs Select Committee will be published instead, which Cllr Hodge expects to be "any day".

Ahmed Hassan, who was placed in foster care in Sunbury, is now in prison for the attack that injured 51 people, told immigration officials he trained with Islamic State after claiming asylum in Britain in 2015.

He was referred by Surrey social services to anti-radicalisation programme Prevent, which he engaged with while plotting the attack.

After the trial, a council spokesman apologised for the work with other agencies not being “as good as it should have been”.
