Friends and family of a 29-year-old classically-trained singer who is blogging about her struggle with breast cancer are throwing a concert to offer her support and raise money.

Phillippa Lusty, more fondly known as Pip to loved ones, was given the diagnosis on August 25, 2017. She decided to go see her GP after finding a lump in her right breast, which had been there for about three months.

Pip’s musical talents have taken her all over the world, with performances in Asia and Europe under her belt – including an appearance at the Royal Albert Hall. She has won national and international awards for her music.

Before her diagnosis, Pip had seen doctors complaining of fatigue and feeling under the weather, but it was put down to stress and depression.

After a biopsy, her diagnosis was confirmed. Pip had just started a new job and had become used to feeling fatigued, and the confirmation came as a real shock.

Speaking to the Comet, Pip’s mother, Lesley, said: “She is just 29 years old, which is very young for a breast cancer diagnosis.”

She continued to commend her daughter for her spirit: “The reality is, people are just drawn to her. She is the most lovely individual.”

Since the diagnosis, Pip has undergone a mastectomy and several months of chemotherapy. This month, she is due to have her other breast removed and will then have a course of radiotherapy.

Pip has been documenting her battle with the disease through a series of video blogs since she was first diagnosed, and has been commended by her friends for keeping a smile on her face throughout her struggle.

Before she began chemotherapy, Pip also donated her hair to The Prince’s Trust, to make a wig for children who have been diagnosed with cancer.

To recognise Pip’s incredible spirit, her friends and family will be holding the Pink Ribbon for Pip concert on June 23, which will also raise money for Breast Cancer Care

For the first time since her diagnosis, Pip herself will be performing in the concert, which will be held at Chessington Methodist Church at 7.30pm.

“She has a really beautiful, accessible voice. A lovely, light voice,” Ms Lusty added.

Alongside musical performances, a raffle will be held to raise money, with several prizes up for grabs including a trip to Cornwall.

Tickets for the concert are £12 and £10 for concessions. To buy a ticket, call 07980 615380 or email enquiries@education4everyone.org.uk.
