Kingston charity Man and Boy has said the borough’s charities hoping to raise support for their work should apply to the borough’s business awards.

Director Trevor Quy said winning Best Charity or Social Enterprise at last year’s Kingston Business Excellence Awards has done just that for them.

He said: “We were delighted. It helped raise our profile in the local community, and we have attracted support from local businesses and other organisations as a result.”

The charity seeks to promote trust between men and boys so children can have a positive male role model.

It runs camping experiences, relationship skills courses and one-to-one mentoring for fathers.

At the award ceremony in October 2017, a representative from Bentalls (which sponsored the charity award) said Man and Boy was chosen for showing “prevention is better than cure in the long run” as well as having “innovative short term solutions”.

Mr Quy said: “It was great to be able to affirm our volunteers on the awards night and celebrate the success of this relatively young charity.

“We thank all the local organisations and new friends that have got behind us as a result of this award, and look forward to an equally successful 2018 with their help and the backing of all our amazing supporters.”
