Surrey County Council’s inquiry into its handling of the Parsons Green bomber has been finished, council leader David Hodge confirmed.

He said a “learning review, along the lines of a serious case review” (which takes place when a child dies or is seriously injured) is now being considered by the Home Office and has not yet been published.

Sunbury 18-year-old Ahmed Hassan, now in prison for the attack that injured 51 people, told immigration officials he trained with Islamic State after claiming asylum in Britain in 2015.

He was referred by Surrey social services to anti-radicalisation programme Prevent, which he engaged with while plotting the attack.

After the trial, a council spokesman apologised for the work with other agencies not being “as good as it should have been”.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting on April 24, Cllr Hodge said: “Surrey County Council had already actioned its key recommendations before the incident.

“We will continue to focus on ensuring that the council’s work in this area is as good as it can be, and, with the agreement of the Home Office and local partners, we will share the report when the current deliberations are complete.”
