Police are appealing for witnesses after thieves stole a Mercedes car from Tesco Brooklands car park in Weybridge - while the owner was there.

Two men allegedly approached the driver, who had been adding air to his tyres with a portable pump, and told him to “get away”.

They then took his car keys and drove away in his car.

The incident happened at around 6.20pm on Friday, February 16.

The suspects are described as Asian, in their 20s, and both were wearing jeans and dark hoodies, while one was wearing a woolly hat. The car is still missing.

PC Charlie Leegood, who is investigating, said: “This is a very unusual crime - it is very rare for a car to be taken while the owner is present - and the owner is understandably shocked by what has happened.

“I want to speak to anyone who was shopping at Tesco Brooklands between 6pm and 6.30pm yesterday evening, and may have seen these two men in the car park or have seen the car being taken.

“I am also keen to speak to anyone who saw a Black Mercedes E220, registration RX64 YSF, making off from the area at speed, or anyone who knows where the car is now.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference PR/45180017638.
