Kingstonian could be back in the borough by next season if plans to share grounds with Corinthian-Casuals are approved.

The Ks have been based in Fetcham Grove, Leatherhead, this season, and the move to King George’s Field in Tolworth would come into effect from August 1.

A statement from both clubs claimed talks about forming a partnership, including shared facilities, are “in an advanced stage”.

Ks fan Jamie Cutteridge, who set up a petition two years ago calling on the council to do what it could to keep the club at Kingsmeadow, has mixed feelings about the announcement.

He said: “It’s better than being in Leatherhead. It’s a step in the right direction, but it’s a tough one. The language in the statement sounds like it’s a medium-to-long-term plan.

“For me, the borough feels like a bit of an arbitrary boundary. It’s Kingston’s club, not tied to the borough.

“But, we all understand there are very few viable solutions. It would be good to have some stability. It’s in both clubs’ interests to make it work.”

The Ks left the Kingsmeadow in Norbiton, its home for 25 years, after leaseholders AFC Wimbledon decided to sell the lease to premier league giants Chelsea.

The decision now needs to be approved by various governing bodies.
