The major work being carried out by Southern Gas Network (SGN) in Kingston will come to an end this Sunday (October 22).
Cromwell Road, London Road and Queen Elizabeth Road are the roads affected.
An “innovative robotic system called CISBOT” has been carrying out the work, which “will ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come”.
According to SGN: “We’re investing £655,000 to upgrade our gas network in Cromwell Road, Kingston.
“We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks.
“However, CISBOT is able to travel approximately 170 metres along the gas pipe in each direction from a single excavation.
“This means we’re able to upgrade this entire section of approximately 300 metres without the need for long trenches along Cromwell Road to access our pipe.
“We’ll also be working seven days a week, up to 24 hours a day, to minimise disruption to the local community.”
