The final of Celebrity MasterChef will air tomorrow night (Friday) as Kingston's Angellica Bell battles to be crowned the 2017 winner.

Former Blue Peter presenter and broadcaster, Angellica, is up against finalists Ulrika Jonsson and Dev Griffin on BBC One from 8.30pm.

“I wanted to get to the final and be part of the whole experience,” Angellica told Surrey Comet.

“It was a bit of a surprise to get this far but it’s been amazing to be part of the series.”

Angellica is married to Celebrity Masterchef 2012 finalist, Michael Underwood, who was “really good” in helping her prepare for the show.

“Oh, that’s a hard question,” Angellica replied when asked who was the better cook between the two.

“Michael did say the other day that he thinks I’m a better cook than him. Bless him. He is better suited to having a cook book whereas I’m more quick and easy. He’s a really excellent cook.”

Two challenges stand between the finalists and the MasterChef finishing line.

The first will be hosted by starred chef Jason Atherton at City Social where finalists will compete to master new techniques and unfamiliar ingredients.

Their final task is a three course meal prepared in the MasterChef kitchen in front of judges/presenters John Torode and Gregg Wallace.

Angellica said: “It’s quite daunting to have two of the most professional food experts looking at everything you’re doing.

“It’s always nerve racking every time you walk into the MasterChef kitchen. It’s emotionally and physically relentless.”

At home, Angellica enjoys making lasagne for her two children and she advised that nailing the basics is a good benchmark to then try other things.

Why does Angellica believe the show is so popular?

She said: “I think that food is such an emotive ting. It unites everyone and we all need it to survive. That’s why we watch the show and John and Gregg are phenomenal.”

As for tomorrow evening, Angellica commented, “I’ll be watching nervously from home in my pyjamas with Michael sat next to me.”
