Families can get free entry to Chessington World of Adventures this August bank holiday and there's just one small catch - you'll have to leave your phone behind.

Two-thirds of children say their parents pay more attention to their phones than to them, according to new research by the theme park.

And they are responding by giving free entry to parents - on one condition.

This August bank holiday weekend, Chessington is offering families the chance to gain free entry to the Theme Park by vowing to give up their phones and apply for ‘No Phone Zone’ entry on its Facebook page.

The research also showed that almost two-fifths (36 per cent) of parents say it's equally or more important to record an event on their phones, rather than experience it.

Families that enter via the ‘No Phone Zone’ entrance will be asked to leave their phones at the gate ahead of enjoying their day out, before collecting their devices at the end of the day.

Nikki Jones, mobile operations manager World of Adventures Resort, said: “We all love and need our phones – but our research shows that instead of enhancing our lives, sometimes our phones are inhibiting them.

“When people come to Chessington we want them to have a fun day out spending quality time with their loved ones.

“We're launching the ‘No Phone Zone’ to give parents the chance to get in for free if they're willing to leave their phone at the gate.

“We hope that everyone who enters makes unforgettable memories without the need of a smartphone.”
