Zac Goldsmith has been accused of using the Barcelona terror attacks to “score political points” and “spread lies” by left-wing political organisation Momentum.

The Conservative MP for Richmond Park retweeted a post linking Momentum with a Barcelona attacker.

After the terror attacks on August 17, when at least 14 people died and more than 100 were injured in two separate vehicle attacks, a spokesperson for the Jewish Agency, Avi Mayer, posted a video on Twitter and said: “The Barcelona attacker posted this anti-Semitic video alleging a global Jewish conspiracy to take over the world.”

The recently re-elected MP’s brother, Ben Goldsmith, retweeted it and said: “Maybe he got it from Labour’s Momentum movement? They make for weird bedfellows, Islamism and hard-leftism, but they’re joined at the hip.”

Zac Goldsmith then retweeted his brother’s post.

Momentum, which was founded four weeks after Jeremy Corbyn was elected Labour leader in 2015, described the move as "outrageous"

Emma Rees, Momentum’s national coordinator, said: “It is outrageous and deeply shameful that a sitting Member of Parliament would use this tragic attack to spread lies and score political points.

“On behalf of Momentum, I offer our solidarity and condolences to all of those affected, and urge Zac Goldsmith to retract his comments, apologise and show some respect for those who have died in this tragic attack.”

Zac Goldsmith has declined to comment.
