A dumped dog who was tied up in Chessington managed to escape, only to be tied up again later that day.

The one-year-old brindle saluki was found in a play area on Saturday, July 15, by a woman who took her home, but before the RSPCA arrived the dog ran out of the garden.

A man found her later, tied to a bus stop in Gilders Road, and RSPCA trainee inspector Helen Wheeler went to collect her.

Staff at the South Godstone Animal Centre in Surrey named the dog Flo.

Ms Wheeler said: “The original caller had found her tied up to a bridge in a children’s play area and took her home. But, as she was making her some shelter in the garden, the dog managed to slip out.

“I suspect she ran home and, when her owners saw she had returned, they took her back out and abandoned her again, this time tying her up to a bus stop.

“The poor girl has effectively been abandoned twice in one day.”

Flo is being treated for an ear infection, and if she is not claimed, she will be assessed before being rehomed.

She was not microchipped and had no collar or ID tag.

Ms Wheeler said: “We are now investigating how this poor girl came to be abandoned and suspect she has been dumped by someone local who was able to restrain her a second time after she got free and went home.

“We’d like anyone who saw Flo in the area on Saturday or anyone who recognises her to get in touch by calling our appeal line on 0300 123 8018 and leaving me a message.”

Once she has been microchipped, spayed and had all her vaccinations, Flo will be available for rehoming. You can register an interest by contacting RSPCA South Godstone Animal Centre on 0300 123 0741.
