Gas company Cadent has announced it will be putting the gas back on in a housing block after residents have been without it for nearly 14 weeks.

This comes just one day after the Wandsworth Guardian published a story about a carer’s “nightmare” living with no heat or hot water for three months.

A spokesperson for Cadent, previously National Grid, said: “We expect to start getting residents in Penwood House back on gas today (19 July).

“The new pipes have been installed and gas is being pumped through them. We have to visit every flat to make sure the gas is flowing safely to gas appliances such as boilers and cookers.

“We would like to thank residents for bearing with us.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by our works.

“We have been doing all we can to complete them as soon as possible.”

Carmen Robinson’s gas supply was turned off on April 12 due to a gas leak at the Alton Estate.

She said she was “of course happy” the gas was being turned on, but will continue to appeal against the cap of £1,000 compensation due to the severe length of the ordeal.
