Work started this week on a new 2.8-kilometre water main on a stretch of main road which passes Banstead, Nork and Burgh Heath.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place along the A217 Brighton Road while the work is carried out.
The new water main is set to connect two reservoirs in Burgh Heath and Nork, and provide customers with a fresh supply during major water outages, SES Water, the firm carrying out the work, stated.
The project is set to last until Spring 2018, and is being carried out in phases.
