The family of an 86-year-old woman who died after being hit by a van in Thames Ditton has paid tribute to her.

Teresa McArdle, known as Billie, was hit by a white Ford Transit between 8.30am and 8.35am on Wednesday, June 14, near the Shell service station on Cholmley Road.

She was airlifted to St George’s Hospital in Tooting with serious injuries to her head and injuries to her leg, and she died there on Saturday.

In a statement, her family said: “Billie McArdle, a well-known and popular resident of Thames Ditton, was tragically killed as a result of a road traffic accident.

“Her family would like to record their appreciation of the efforts of the emergency services and the skill and care of the staff at St George's Hospital, Tooting, to where she was airlifted for treatment.

“Billie fought valiantly to beat her injuries but unfortunately succumbed in the early hours of Saturday morning. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends – particularly the parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Hampton Court Way.”

Police are urging witnesses who have yet to come forward to do so, contacting the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01483 639922, quoting reference 45170062798.
