A group of Kingston University graduates have launched a media platform to tell the stories of London’s Portuguese speakers.

Using videos, photographs and articles, Little Portugal hopes to produce and share inspiring content from the community.

Portuguese speakers come to London from many places around the world: Portugal, Angola, Brazil, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, East Timor, Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe and Macau.

Currently on the website are interviews with musicians, bloggers, journalists, business owners and more.

Catarina Demony, Little Portugal co-director and Kingston Journalism graduate, said: “When you live outside your home country, there is often a need to stay connected to your roots, to your language and to your culture. This was our way to do it.

“For us, last year’s EU referendum was an important factor when deciding which kind of project to opt for. The increase in hate crime post-referendum made us believe that it is now more important than ever to share stories of migrants who are contributing to British society.”
