Painting of Battersea Power Station’s iconic chimneys has commenced.

The South East chimney is the first to get a base coat, while all four are expected to get one by September 2017.

Following this, a final coat will be applied.

Rob Tincknell, CEO of Battersea Power Station Development Company, said it was a “key milestone”.

“We are now a step closer to finishing the restoration of the Power Station and opening it up to the public for the first time.”

Emily Gee, London Planning Director of Historic England, said: “Historic England welcomes this final stage of the rebuilding of the chimneys, ensuring that the Power Station will retain its landmark status along this evolving part of London’s skyline.”
